When the LCA Knights take the football field against Highland Baptist Friday night, they will be remembering one former player and 2012 graduate whose life was cut short by a motorcycle accident.

According to Lafayette Christian Academy's Facebook Page, 19-year-old Eugene Sonnier, III, an airman who was stationed at McGuire's Air Force Base, will be honored by his former school as they will officially retire his #31 jersey. Also, the first 500 people in attendance will receive a special commemorative towel in his honor.

According to his obituary, Eugene Sonnier, III was born on June 7, 1994 to Norlet Taylor Pierre and Eugene Joseph Sonnier, II in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was an Airman First Class and Crew Chief of a C-17 aircraft. Eugene attended Lafayette Christian Academy from 7th grade to 12th grade and played football, basketball, track and baseball at the school. In football, he was a standout wide receiver and linebacker.
