After weeks of discussion the Lafayette City-Parish Council is set to finalize its upcoming budget today.

City-Parish President Joey Durel joined “Mornings with Ken and Bernie” for his weekly “Lafayette Live” segment to discuss his thoughts on all things budget process.

By the end of the night tonight the budget will be adopted by the council. I'll then have a period of time to sign off on it. If I want to veto something I'll veto it, but I'll tell you, this is the best I've felt about the budget since I've been in office. -Joey Durel

Durel was pleased so far with the progress of the budget discussions, but was tight-lipped when asked about the controversial City-Parish Council member 10% pay raise that could be introduced today.

I don't know. I can't speak for the council, we'll have to wait and see, but I have a feeling it will all be removed. But understand that that's a rumor. - Joey Durel

When Durel was asked if he planned to veto the pay raise if passed,

It's no use speculating on things like that. I'll deal with reality, not speculation. - Joey Durel

Today is the last day for the public to give input into the budget process. The budget meeting will take place today at 1pm.
