Horse Farm

Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel says he hopes to sign papers this summer that will formally transfer the former UL-Lafayette Equine Center to Lafayette Consolidated Government so it can be converted into a public park.

The project has been stalled for about a year because of legal obstacles that university leaders and government officials have worked around. The plan is to convert the property into a park that emphasizes biking and hiking trails.

The Horse Farm will cost the parish around $6 million. The City-Parish Council approved that purchase in April 2011.
