Do you want to pay more taxes for facility improvements and education initiatives for Lafayette Parish public schools?

Well, a citizens committee is getting ever closer to recommending a multimillion-dollar tax package to fund those initiatives.

Members of the Community Education Plan Committee have been working on what needs the district has.

Most of the 25 members agree that the Lafayette school district will need more money for repairs to aging facilities and to continue Lafayette's turnaround plan.

The committee will meet with members of the Lafayette Parish School Board in October to gauge their thoughts on the tax idea.
