A popular program will resume for local residents. The Lafayette Consolidated Government Compost Facility reopens to the public today.

The compost has been closed since September 13 when a fire destroyed the facility's tub grinder. The facility has been in continuous operation since 1990. Yard waste is collected curbside from the 52-thousand households in the city of Lafayette and the unincorporated parts of the parish. That waste is brought to the facility to be processed into mulch or compost which people pick up for free for use as a soil addition in gardens, flower beds, and landscaping.
