The Lafayette City Parish Council has voted to no longer allow travel trailers to be used as permanent housing in the Parish.

The vote was 5-4 at last night's meeting.  The new regulation makes it illegal to use a travel trailer as your home for more than 180 days in any calendar year.

This new regulation applies to the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish, as it is already illegal to do so in the city of Lafayette.

Planning, Zoning and Codes Director Eleanor Bouy says they have received complaints about homeowners renting those trailers to itinerant workers.
