The Lafayette City-Parish Council held a meeting last night and took action on land-use regulations.  This is the first time the council has taken this kind of action for the unincorporated areas of the parish.

During the summer, the Lafayette council voted for an ordinance creating land-use regulations for the unincorporated areas of the parish.  Those areas are not subject to Lafayette city zoning laws.

The ordinance will focus on protecting residential areas from getting neighbors that might end up being business or industrial.

At first yesterday, council members rejected a request from a developer to waive some of the new requirements.  They then go the go-ahead to a plan to build another development that would follow the new guidelines.
