UPDATE (1:33 p.m.) -- Lafayette Police have charged the man believed to be responsible for this morning's fatal crash.

Cpl. Paul Mouton says 26-year-old Casey Robertson has been charged with vehicular homicide, OWI, driving under suspension, and disobeying a red signal light.

Mouton says police are still trying to get in touch with the next of kin of the 61-year-old victim from Alabama.

The crash remains under investigation.

(9:32 a.m.) -- A crash early Friday morning leaves one person dead and another in the hospital.

Lafayette Police say the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. when witnesses say a Ford truck going south on the Evangeline Thruway collided with a Chevy car turning left from East Kaliste Saloom onto the SE Evangeline Thruway.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck went to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Names of the two people involved have not been released. Police continue to investigate.
