A Sunday afternoon crash leaves one male dead and another in the hospital in serious condition.

Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton says police responded to the accident around 12:15 p.m. on I-10 at the I-49 interchange. Traffic investigators say, for unknown reasons, the person driving a red Ford Explorer lost control as he was driving east on I-10, struck a guardrail and rolled multiple times before landing between the east and westbound lanes.

Lafayette Police say the person who died was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

This caused police to close down the westbound lanes of I-10 (and the left lane of I-10 eastbound) and to divert traffic north on I-49. State Police cleared everything about two and a half hours after Lafayette Police arrived on the scene.
