Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies were called out to Fifth Street in Duson to investigate a shooting.  Captain Craig Stansbury says the report shows deputies were met by Alicide Lewis who told them that he had been shot.

Deputies say they were first told by Lewis that he and his wife had gone to take a walk down Fifth Street when Lewis said he suddenly heard a gunshot.  Lewis says he then looked down and realized he had been shot.  Deputies say the man's injuries are not life threatening.

According to Captain Stansbury, deputies started investigating, and they determined, based on physical evidence and witness statements, that Lewis had shot himself by accident.  They say the investigation will continue.
