Lafayette Doctor Will Remain Free

A former cardiologist that was convicted for health care fraud remains free while his case goes through an appeal.  Dr. Mehmood Patel's legal representation has been successful for several years now in helping the doctor remain out jail while the appeal continues.

In the original case, prosecutors successfully argued that Patel performed unnecessary procedures to the tune of two million dollars.

Now with the ruling by a federal judge, Patel still with be able remain free.  He lost another appeal just last week, and prosecutors were saying they thought if he wanted to appeal he could do so from jail.

Patel was given a 10 year prison sentence back in 2009.  He was convicted on 51 counts of fraud.
