Lafayette Doctor Will Report To Prison On December 17th.

A former Lafayette cardiologist has now decided that he will report to prison on December 17th.  He had been hoping that the 5h Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals would allow him to remain free why he tries to petition the United State Supreme Court to hear his case.  Dr. Mehmood M. Patel now knows that the appeals court has denied his request to remain free, and he will report later this month to prison.

Dr. Mehmood M. Patel was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his 2009 health care fraud conviction. Patel has been free all that time while he continues the appeals process.

The 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals upheld Patel's conviction on the federal health care fraud charges this past summer, and now they have also turned down his request to remain out of jail why he waits to hear if the U.S. Supreme Court will hear his case.
