A vacant home on LaSalle Street in Lafayette suffered heavy damage after catching fire Sunday afternoon.

According to Lafayette Fire Department spokesperson Alton Trahan, tenants were in the process of moving into the home after it had been vacant for awhile. Homeless people frequently stayed in the home, the owner told firefighters.

Investigators believe the fire started in the front of the home, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
