Nine firefighters with the Lafayette Fire Department have been treated and released from the hospital after suffering injuries while putting out a fire Saturday night at 111 Levison Way in River Ranch. They were evaluated after experiencing skin irritation and suffering respiratory concerns.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says Mark and Beckey Plummer, owners of the residence, were at home when the fire happening. Trahan says they told fire officials that they noticed a lightning strike in close proximity of the house, then went outside to inspect, finding smoke coming from the roof. That's when they called 911.

Firefighters say the fire was contained to the attic area of the home. The interior of the house sustained light smoke and water damage.

Fire officials suspect lightning caused the fire; they are also looking into what may have caused the irritation to the firefighters.
