It was not due to a specific threat or incident, and it was routine practice, but Lafayette High School was on lockdown for about an hour an a half this morning.

Acccording to Angela Morrison with the Lafayette Parish School System Lafayette Police and the Lafayette Sheriff's Office were there to do drug and weapons search during 2nd period classes.

Morrison's press release states, "The action is a whole school precautionary and preventative search that is a routine practice and is not the result of a specific warning or incident."

All classrooms and individuals were searched during the drill, and groups of between six and eight classrooms were searched at the same time by law enforcement teams.
