It started off great for the Mighty Lions. But after that, it was all Bulldogs as Cecilia High defeated Lafayette High 25-3 at Mighty Lion Stadium on Homecoming night.

The Mighty Lion defense started off the game forcing a Bulldog punt, which their offense turned into a Lane Perrin 28-yard field goal. The drive featured a new look offense centered on the run, which consisted heavily of RB Trey Davis. But, the drive could have ended much better for LHS, if not for an offensive penalty helping to stall it inside the Cecilia 10-yard-line.

That self-inflicted mistake would be one of many made by the Mighty Lions as the Bulldogs would not let them score again, while racking up 25 unanswered points of their own.

It didn't take long for Cecilia to answer Lafayette High's field goal as QB Corey Williams connected with WR Kaleb Carter on a beautiful sideline route for a 24-yard touchdown. Two LHS offside penalties on the extra point attempt put the ball so close to the goalline that the Bulldogs could not pass up going for the two-point conversion, which they converted to bring the score to 8-3.

The score would stay that way until DB/WR Noah Livings intercepted a Brennan Broussard pass for a pick-6, increasing the score to 15-3 in favor of the Bulldogs with 4:39 to play until halftime.

A Tanner Olivier 32-yard field goal in the 3rd Quarter pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 15, and another Cecilia touchdown in the 4th Quarter put the icing on the cake.

When it was all said and done, Cecilia's 25-3 victory improved their record to 2-3 on the season and dropped Lafayette High's to 1-4.

Next up for the Mighty Lions is their first road trip of the year against the Barbe Buccaneers. Kickoff Friday night is set for 7:00 p.m. Ian Auzenne (play-by-play) and Brandon Comeaux (color) will have the call on the home of Lafayette High Mighty Lions football, Newstalk 96.5 FM KPEL.
