Lafayette Little League Loses Heartbreaker To Bossier City In State Tournament

An Amani Larry 2-run homer in the bottom of the 6th inning proved to be the difference as the Lafayette Little League All Star Team (11-12 year old) lost 10-8 to the All-Star team from Bossier City in the State Tournament at Chappapeela Sports Park in Hammond.

Amani Larry, son of Ragin’ Cajuns baseball player Jarvis Larry who played on the 2000 College World Series team, had himself quite a game for Bossier City. In addition to his game-winning homer, he hit another 2-run homer in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Bossier City jumped out on the team from the Hub City 1-0 in the 1st inning, but Lafayette responded by jumping out to a 6-1 lead in the 2nd inning and an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning with 2 outs. Along the way, Matt Savoie hit a solo homer while Luke Landry hit a grand slam.

But it was at this point in the game when things began going wrong for the Lafayette Little Leaguers, as an error led to 5 unearned runs and suddenly a tied 8-8 ballgame.

Lafayette had their chance in the 6th inning, loading up the bases with 1 out. But they were not able to get any runs and Larry hit the game-winning homer in the bottom of the inning.

Next, a familiar foe stands in the way of the Lafayette Little Leaguers as they will face South Lake Charles Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. on Talkradio 960 AM. James P. Bitterman will have the call; pregame will start at 6:05 p.m. Bossier City defeated South Lake Charles earlier in the tournament while Lafayette Little League defeated Marksville.

Meanwhile, the 13-14 year old Lafayette Little League All-Star team fared much better on Saturday. In their second game of the tournament in Shreveport, they defeated Jackson Parish 10-0 in five innings. After wins over Alexandria on Friday and Jackson Parish on Saturday, the Lafayette Little Leaguers will have Sunday off and will play the winner between Shreveport and Mid-City Monday night at 8:00 p.m. in the winners bracket final.
