Lafayette Man Accused Of Trying To Kidnap Child
A local man has been arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap a local child.
Captain Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says the 12-year-old boy had just been dropped off by a school bus Thursday afternoon on Pennington Drive when the boy says a man pulled up on the side of him while he was walking and told him to get into the truck. The boy, a student at Charles Burke Elementary, then ran home and told his mom who called police.
Captain Judice says they found the suspect near a home in the same neighborhood and questioned him. Deputies say the man told them he was trying to give the boy a ride home but didn't know the child or where he lived. 41-year-old Jonathan Rogers of Lafayette was then arrested and booked into the parish jail for attempted simple kidnapping.
