Lafayette Man Arrested In September Shooting Near Cajundome

22-year-old Dovontay J. Helaire of Lafayette was arrested on Wednesday for Attempted First Degree Murder after a 21-year-old woman was shot at the intersection of Buttigig Street and Cajundome Boulevard on September 23.

Lafayette Police Department Spokeswoman Corporal Bridgette Dugas says the United States Marshals Louisiana Offender Task Force, with the assistance of the Eunice Police Department, apprehended Helaire at a home in Eunice. He’s being transferred to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

The victim was shot in the upper body and still remains hospitalized in stable condition.
