A Lafayette man was arrested on a whole host of charges Saturday after Police say an officer directing traffic on Johnston Street at Ambassador Caffery was almost his by Abshire's car according to our news partner at KATC.

The officer was working traff at the intersection after a crash. He heard a car coming up behing him, and he says Abshire's Lincoln Towncar allegedly passed very close to the officer before it stop in the intersection.

The officer says he told the driver to turn the car off, but Abshire took off.

The Lafayette Police Department and the Lafayette Sheriff's Office chased the man, and he was pointing a shotgun out the window of the car.

The car ended up in a ditch on South Fieldspan, and Abshire got out of the car with the gun.

Abshire has been booked on the following charges:

  • Aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a police officer
  • Disobeying a police officer
  • Aggravated flight from a police officer
  • Possession of a sawed-off shotgun
  • Resisting arrest
  • Second-offense OWI
