A Lafayette man was arrested on attempted murder and rape charges after he allegedly followed his ex-girlfriend to her home and then forced his way inside.

Lafayette Police spokesperson Cpl. Paul Mouton said the victim was followed to her home by her ex-boyfriend Thursday night. The victim alleged he forced himself into her apartment with a knife and a handgun and physically abused her.

"Allegedly the suspect sexually assaulted the victim and refused to let the victim leave her apartment," Mouton said. "The last thing the victim remembers was the suspect strangling her with an electrical cord."

The victim told police her ex-boyfriend was gone when she regained consciousness. She was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Jordan Marcel Carambat, was arrested on a charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated rape, home invasion, and false imprisonment.
