Last night around 8 o'clock, Lafayette Police were called out to the 1100 block of 12th Street after 28-year-old Damien Watkins was stabbed in his rib cage at a barber shop.  Watkins was taken to a Lafayette hospital and later died from his injuries.

Witnesses told Lafayette Police that Watkins came into the barber shop and started having an argument with a man inside the shop.  At some point, witnesses say Watkins was stabbed.  The suspect immediately fled the area.

Investigators say about an hour and twenty minutes later shots rang out near the intersection of Magnolia Street and Pinhook Road.  Police were able to stop the car where the shots were believed to have come from.

The driver and one passenger, Trinity Kilchrist and Nicholas Richard were charged with illegal discharge of a firearm.  There were no injuries, and another passenger in the car was able to flee on foot. Detectives think Kilchrist and Richard were acting in retaliation to Watkins death.  Police are continuing their investigation.
