OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — State police say a two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 49 south of Opelousas has claimed the life of a Lafayette man.

The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Master Trooper Brooks David (DAH'-veed) says 67-year-old Donald Royer was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on I-49 in the right lane of travel when a truck changed lane in front of him. David says Royer attempted to avoid striking the rear of the truck, but lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected.

David says Royer was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.
