LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — A 33-year-old Lafayette man has been indicted on a count of second-degree murder in a 2014 shooting death that went unsolved for more than a year.

The Advocate reports Cody Ramon Brown is charged in the Nov. 21, 2014, death of Dwayne Lee Batiste Jr., who was 22 when he was shot and killed in Lafayette.

Police have said the victim was found dead in a truck after they responded to reports of gunfire.

Brown was arrested in February after a task force was set up to look at unsolved homicides. At the time of his arrest, Brown was in prison on unrelated charges at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.

A conviction for second-degree murder carries an automatic sentence of life in prison.
