Lafayette Mechanic Shop Suffers Heavy Fire Damage

Darby's Car Care on Rue Du Belier suffered heavy fire damage after a vehicle caught fire. When Lafayette Firefighters arrived at 11:37 Monday morning heavy smoke and flames were coming from the building. Due to windy conditions the fire quickly spread to several other vehicles and and an attached mobile home. The blaze was contained within 45 minutes.

The owner, John Darby attempted to extinguish the blaze at the onset but it great too quickly. Investigators determined the fire started in the engine compartment of a vehicle being worked on. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
