Lafayette Mother Accused Of Killing Her Own Baby

A Lafayette Parish mother has been arrested for allegedly killing her own child.

On February 6, deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office were called out to the 200 block of A. Begnaud Road concerning the death of the 9-month-old child. After an autopsy, Captain Kip Judice say toxicology reports revealed lethal levels of two adult painkillers: oxycodone and oxymorphone.

After interviewing family members of the child, investigators charged the mother Christina Menard with second-degree murder. She's in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center awaiting bond. Authorities continue to investigate.
