Lafayette Named America's Best, Again

The good news for the Hub City just keeps on coming.

Lafayette has recently received a number of major awards and accolades from various media and publications. City-Parish President Joey Durel stopped by 'Nathan and Bernie in the Morning' for his weekly 'Lafayette Live' segment to discuss what these awards mean for the city.

"It’s something that somebody from outside of this state has recognized about Lafayette and is telling the world," said Durel.

A recent National Geography report published by Forbes ranked Lafayette as the number one mid-sized metro area in the county. The report also called Lafayette the country's eighth best manufacturing city.

The accolades don't end with Forbes. AAA's Southern Traveler Best of the South awards named Lafayette as number one in three different categories: Best Small Town in Louisiana, Best Getaway in the South, and Tastiest Town.

The awards and accolades are nothing new for Lafayette. The city has been recognized on numerous occasions in recent years for its economic, cultural, and culinary successes. These awards combined with the notoriety the University of Louisiana has garnered with their athletic success have kept Lafayette in the national spotlight; something Durel says catches many off guard.

"People come to Louisiana with low expectations and they get to Lafayette and they are surprised," said Durel.
