Last night, a police officer shot at a suspect who pointed a gun in his direction.

Lafayette Police say an officer was called out around 11:15 last night to the 200 block of East Clinton Street about multiple gunshots being fired.

The officer says he came upon a male suspect in the street and began giving him verbal commands, which the officer says the suspect did not comply with and pointed his weapon in the direction of the officer.

The officer fired multiple shots hitting the suspect in the shoulder, and then the suspect fled.

Police found the man hiding underneath a nearby home, he was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.  The officer was not hurt.

The shooting is being investigated by the Lafayette Police Department Officer Involved Shooting Team.

Investigators recovered two semi-automatic pistols at the scene, and found out the suspect was wanted on two warrants for resisting arrest and simple escape.
