At a ceremony Thursday night, Lafayette Police Department Detective Todd Borel was honored by the St. Edmund's Knights of Columbus as their "Officer of the Year."

Detective Borel was recognized for his instrumental work on a check counterfeiting case in 2012, in which three suspects were arrested, accused of creating the counterfeit checks and using them along the Gulf Coast. Lafayette Police Corporal Paul Mouton says Borel and other law enforcement officers recovered $155,000.00 in stolen checks, $2,500.00 in assets and $1,600.00 in cash from the suspect's hotel room in Lafayette.

Detective Borel has been on the force for 11 years.
