LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- A Lafayette Parish man is facing allegations of sexually assaulting a child following a three month investigation by Lafayette Parish deputies.

Though not many details could be released because of the age of the victim, Capt. Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office said 29-year-old Conwell Cormier was arrested yesterday.

Deputies were notified in December 2012 of the alleged misconduct with the child, who is under 12 years of age, Judice said.

A warrant for Cormier's arrest was issued Thursday, Judice said. He was located by members of the Marshal's Office, Judice said.

Cormier was being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center without bond, according to jail records.
