Due to the impending strong weather expected in Acadiana over the next few hours, the Lafayette Parish School Board has announced that classes for students and teachers are cancelled for Wednesday.  School board spokeswoman Angela Simoneaux tells KPEL that only principals, custodial stuff and central office staff are asked to report to work Wednesday if they can do so safely.

The Lafayette Diocese has also announced that they will not be holding classes Wednesday in the parish as well.

  • Several parishes have closed public schools for Wednesday: Iberia, Vermilion, St. Martin, Acadia, Jeff Davis, Iberia, St. Landry and Vermilion. The following schools in these parishes are closed today:

South Louisiana Community College and Acadiana Technical College will be closed today as well. Faculty and Staff are asked to attend if they can get to work safely.

Thursday 8:20 a.m. Debuse Road between Lake Simonette Dr. and E. Leblanc St. in Iberia Parish has been reopened.

3:51 p.m. La. 95 in Evangeline Parish from La. 758 to La. 29 has been closed due to high water.

3:25 p.m. All the advisories for the Lafayette Parish roadways have been lifted.

2:30 p.m. La. 317 in St. Mary is now open to traffic. High water signs are still in place in some areas but the roadway is passable.

10:25 a.m. Debuse Road between Lake Simonette Dr. and E. Leblanc St. in Iberia Parish is closed due to high water.

10:23 a.m. 700 block of Janvier Road in Lafayette Parish has up to 6 inches covering the roadway. Caution is advised.

Rue Novembre in Lafayette Parish has patches with up to 6 inches of water in spots. Caution is advised.

Gloria Switch Road at Janvier in Lafayette Parish has standing water on the roadway.

10:22 a.m. 700 block of Cocdril Road west of LA Hwy 93 (gravel portion) in Lafayette Parish is impassable by passengers cars.

10:20 a.m. La. 317 is closed in St. Mary Parish from mile marker 0.0 to mile marker 4.0 due to high water.

8:00 a.m.  Railroad Road between Lee Station Road and Longside Road and at the intersections of Poufette and Leleux Roads in Iberia Parish is closed.

7:58 a.m. Hayes Road between Avery Island Rd. (Hwy. 329) and Lee Station Road in Iberia Parish is closed.

7:00 a.m. State Police say power lines are down at LA 91 south of Gueydan. Also a tree is down and laying across the roadway at LA 335.
