Lafayette Parish School Board Told There Are Enough Police Officers At Schools

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Some Lafayette Parish School Board members want more police stationed at middle and high school campuses, but criminal activity at the schools doesn't warrant the added officers, the supervisor of the district's school resource officers says.

Lafayette Police Sgt. Mark Francis supervises the 10 police officers assigned to 11 Lafayette city schools.

Francis says he is confident the level of staffing at the schools is adequate.

Schools outside of the Lafayette city limits are staffed by officers from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, Carencro Police Department, Scott Police Department and Broussard Police Department.
