Updating their earlier story, KATC spoke with LPSS Risk Manager, Mona Bernard, who explained that the Internet and phone outages are the result of a virus. Bernard said LPSS systems use voice over Internet telephone service, leading to double outages.

Original story:

KATC reports that Lafayette Parish Schools has issued a robo - call to parents, informing them of a district wide outage of phone and Internet service.

The full text of the call reads

We have had to take our computer network offline, which means the school district does not have Internet or email access at the present time. This also means that we have no telephone service. The Technology Department staff are working to bring systems back online; however, we are not sure when service can be restored.
