LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Rather than risk a fourth failing year at N.P. Moss Middle School, the Lafayette Parish School Board is closing it and reassigning its students. A vo-tech school will be moved into the campus.

The Advertiser reports that one campus could get 276 new students and another 206 under a plan presented to the board Wednesday.

System official Nelda Broussard says they should be able to handle the influx. She says the numbers include many students already attending other schools.

Although 875 students are in the Moss district, only 311 attend school there. The rest have changed schools under a variety of programs.

For instance, 72 students in that district now attend Paul Breaux, which could be assigned anywhere from 165 to 276 of the students from the Moss district.
