A Lafayette Parish woman has been arrested after it was determined she whipped two children with an extension chord.

Captain Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Teena James allegedly whipped both an eight-year-old and a 12-year-old with the extension chord, leaving visible welts on their bodies.

Deputies were alerted about the incident March 9, Judice says.

"After a joint investigation with the Office of Child Services, deputies confirmed that both children were struck repeatedly with an extension chord in early March," Judice says.

James was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center Wednesday on two counts of cruelty to juveniles.

Judice says James is related to the children, but because of child privacy laws, the exact relationship between the children and James could not be released.
