Lafayette Police arrested 20-year-old Marquis Simmons for allegedly shooting a man to death in the front yard of a home on Hilda Street Friday evening.

Lafayette Police say the 17-year-old victim was shot as he was trying to run away from his alleged attacker. Witnesses say the victim was standing in a yard when he was approached by Simmons.

The teen was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Lafayette police say Simmons is being held on 250-thousand dollars bond following his arrest this weekend on a second-degree murder charge.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was gunned down around 5:30 Friday evening.  Police have given no word on the motive for the shooting.
