Early this morning Lafayette Police responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Cypress and Jefferson Streets.

Around 1:43 am, Lafayette Police arrived on the scene to find a 34-year-old male with three gunshot wounds and in possession of a handgun.

Officers secured the weapon, and the subject was transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police says an argument happened between two men in a parking lot, at which time both subjects produced handguns and began firing multiple shots at each other.

Investigators say the unknown suspect, described only as a black male, fled the area on foot.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the suspect who fled to the scene to contact Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
