A father and his baby escape an apparent drive-by shooting this morning. Lafayette Police say it happened around 9:20 AM by a neighborhood grocery store in the 300 block of 14th Street. Authorities say the man told them he had walked outside with his three-month old son to make a phone call when an older model white Cadillac stopped on the roadway in front of the store. The victim says the driver of the car, described as a black man, then pulled out a handgun and began shooting in their direction. The father was able to take his son back inside the store without any injuries to either of them.

The suspect was able to get away. Police are still trying to figure out the motive for the shooting. If you have any information about the incident or the identity of the suspect, call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
