In their ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving, Lafayette Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint somewhere within the city limits Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

According to Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton, the checkpoint will take place between 9 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday.

"The purpose of the checkpoint is to target impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or other dangerous substances," Mouton said.

Mouton said police will respond with zero tolerance. He recommended designating a responsible driver if you plan on drinking in order to avoid "costly fines and serious jail time."
