What if your tax burden for the next fiscal year were lessened if your a property owner?  Well, if the Lafayette City Parish Council approves a proposal by Lafayette City Parish President Joey Durel then that would become a reality.

Property owners in Lafayette parish could get a tax break if the council approves the 2013-2014 budget.

The council decided to accept Durel's budget with no discussion.  The discussion will come in the next few weeks as there are a series of public hearings scheduled to discuss the budget.

President Durel is proposing to not fully collect two property taxes in the upcoming fiscal year.  The fiscal year begins on November 1.

Durel says both the parish health unit tax and the mosquito abatement tax are bringing in more revenue than is needed for annual operations.

Durel would like to see both taxes not fully collected in the coming year.
