UPDATE – Lafayette Prosecutors To Seek Death Penalty In Child’s Death

Update: 15th Judicial District Attorney Mike Harson's office has filed the paperwork against Landon Broussard, who's accused of raping and killing his girlfriend's 3-year-old son in November of 2012. That's according to our news partners at KATC.

Assistant Distict Attorney Bill Babin informed state District Judge Durwood Conques in April that prosecutors had not yet filed documents, but plan to proceed with capital murder charges in Broussard's case.  Broussard is alleged to have beaten Julian Madera to death.

Broussard has two court-appointed attorneys, one of whom has entered a not guilty plea on his client's behalf.

Investigators determined that 3-year-old Julian was a victim of severe abuse, and Broussard was then indicted in the case in March of this year on one count of first-degree murder.

A police affidavit shows that deputies found Julian had been the victim of blunt force trauma, and the boy had bruises of different ages that covered his body.
