Want to save some money, reduce storm water runoff and conserve water?  Lafayette Utilities System and Lafayette Consolidated Government's Public Works Department can help, but only for a short time.

The program will allow residents in the city of Lafayette and the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish to purchase a rain barrel at a discounted price.

The rain barrel program began in 2012, and since that time, some 1.400 barrels were provided to residents.

How much water has been saved thus far?  The estimate of LCG is two million gallons of water.

How much water does the average resident use for their outdoor areas? Figures show up to the 30% of all the water we use is used for things like watering the lawn in the summer months.

LCG and LUS figures also show that a household with a rain barrel save around 1,300 gallons of water by having just one rain barrel.

The program is very popular, and it is back, but only for a short time.

Only 300 rain barrels are available for purchase for $35.  Each household can only buy one barrel.  If you want another barrel it will cost you another $62.

The barrels can be picked up by May 9th at the Domingues Compost Facility at 400 Dugas Road, but only if you have placed your order by April 24, and you are one of the first 300 to purchase your barrel.

You can get even more information at either one of these addresses:
