The Lafayette Parish School Board has given the authority to their attorney to go forward with negotiations in reference to a lawsuit a parent filed against the school system.

The mother of a girl who was hit by a school bus in 2012 filed the lawsuit.

Board attorney Tonya Smith says the lawsuit was filed in July of this year by Rhaima Sabeh Waffa.  Waffa was filling on behalf of her daughter Maryam Jaafar who was hit by a school bus on September 20, 2012.

The girl was hit while in the driveway of Lafayette High School.

The board met with Smith during an executive session of the board this week.
