The decision about whether or not the Lafayette Parish School Board will divide up its legal work will more than likely be decided next month.

At a December meeting, the executive committee of the board, decided they would recommend that Hammonds, Sills, Adkins & Guice LLP in Baton Rouge be the designated frim that would handle any education issues on behalf of the board.

During that meeting, members decided to give a nod to the Lafayette firm of Borne & Wilkes LLC to handle all legal matters that don't deal with education.  That firm, if hired, would deal with issues like workers' compensation and insurance.

Even if these changes are made, it would not change the position of board attorney James Simon, who handles most of the board's legal matters.
