At tonight's Lafayette Parish School Board meeting, members will be discussing whether or not to approve charter schools for Lafayette Parish.

Right now, there is no clear consensus among the school board members.

The president of the board, Shelton Cobb, says he is still undecided, while board member Kermit Bouillion says he is in support of charter schools.

Bouillion says charter schools create more class space for students without taxpayers having to foot the bill.

Charter Schools USA wants to open two K through 8 schools in Lafayette Parish along with a high school.

National Heritage Academies wants to build two K through 8 schools.

Both groups says they will ask permission from the state of Louisiana to open the schools if Lafayette Parish turns them down.
