The Lafayette Parish School Board and school district administrators received an in-depth first look at the new district-wide rezoning plan from former School Board member and demographer Mike Hefner.

The re-zoning plan will take effect before the 2017-2018 school year begins.

The new zone map for high schools, middle schools and elementary schools can be viewed at www.lpssonline.com/homezone.

LPSS spokesman Randy Bernard said in the near future parents will be able to input their addresses on the Web site to determine their respective school zones under the new zoning plan.

Hefner told the council that the maps do not depict the final district lines, but may change when student populations are finalized.

Hefner said all the final attendance numbers have not been tallied, but should be available by the board’s September meetings. The numbers Hefner presented last night did not account for the district's high school academies, Schools of Choice or English as a Second Language (ESL) students.

He presented maps outlining the new district lines that follow major thoroughfares and geographic objects--offering "cleaner" lines to populate the parish's high schools and feeder schools.
