Lafayette Parish School System's Chief Financial Officer Billy Guidry told school board members during a Tuesday workshop that the system is facing a $12 million budget deficit.

The deficit comes even though there have been increases in both sales and property tax revenue.

Guidry sites ongoing budget cuts and rising retirement costs are the major contributing factors to the projected deficit.

Guidry says the general fund and potential cuts are going to be discussed at a workshop in the future.

School board members spend time during yesterday's workshop reviewing renovation projects, construction and improvements to facility projects.
