LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) --35-year-old Johnny Alexander of St. Martin Parish has surrendered to police, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. He has been booked on two counts of attempted first degree murder.

Deputies in Lafayette Parish say Alexander shot his ex-girlfriend's roommate during an argument Saturday night, May 11.

Capt. Kip Judice with the sheriff's office said Johnny Alexander went to his ex-girlfriend's Berlin Drive apartment that night so that he could try to reconcile their relationship.

During the conversation, Judice said Alexander pulled out a handgun. The ex-girlfriend's roommate tried to calm down the situation, but Alexander allegedly shot him at least three times and shot at his ex, Judice said.

The roommate was being treated at a Lafayette hospital, Judice said. He is currently in serious but stable condition.

Alexander had fled the scene before deputies arrived, Judice said.
