Lafayette Student Among 5 La. Students Among Reps At National Spelling Bee
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — The cities of Lafayette, New Orleans, Hammond, Monroe and Shreveport will have a local student to cheer when they compete this week in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
The Advertiser reports 12-year-old Amelia Hebert is a sixth-grade student at Cathedral-Carmel School in Lafayette. She is among five Louisianans competing in the bee beginning Tuesday.
A total of 281 students will compete from the 50 states and the territories of American Samoa, Guam and Puerto Rico.
The other Louisiana students are Navya Murugesan of Hammond, Chloe LaFleur of Monroe, Peter Antony Davis of New Orleans and Mary Wynne of Shreveport.
