According to House Bill 142 sponsored by Representative Sam Jones of Franklin, public officials and local and state governments should be prohibited from buying pornography with public money or selling it.Jones rejected a change to the bill after it was approved by the House and Senate.  The change, by Lafayette Senator Mike Michot, attached an amendment exempting the City of Lafayette stating that the bill "shall not apply to a local governing authority that provides covered services pursuant to the Local Government Fair Competition Act."  Since Lafayette is the only city-parish government that operates a cable television system with the LUS Fiber To The Home program, it is the only place that falls under the act.  Michot said the act could put Lafayette at a disadvantage competing with other cable TV systems marketing pay-per-view programming.  The measure is heading back to committee.
